Hello gen-slavic mailing list:

My Grand father simon's surname was Miok.

In Catholic church records from Rekasch Hungary, I have found several entries for the Miok surname.

The records cover the period from 1740 to 1844 Marriages, Christenings, and Deaths.

The Miok surname entries cover the period 1770 to 1832.

Before 1770 to 1740 There are several entries for Miokovich, and Miokovic; no more Miok.

It seems probable that the surname is changed from Miokovich and Miokovic to Miok.

If Miokovic/Miokovich Means son of Miok, then name change seems more likely.

Does anyone have an opinion about this?
