Somewhat glancing relevance to genealogy, but I wonder, does anyone have
a contact email for anyone to do with old recordings to do with the
Columbia record company?
I'd like to see if it's at all possible to obtain - and I'd be willing
to pay a reasonable amount [though their idea and mine of what's
reasonable might differ (-:!] - sound file copies of records they made
in the 1920s?
The recordings would have been made 1923 or later, in Cleveland, Ohio,
USA, of Viktor Lisjak (or Lisjakov)'s Moderni Cigani (Modern Gypsies
Orchestra), especially if they feature "Marie" Haley (piano) or William
Haley (violin).
Mary Haley was my grandma, William was her brother; they emigrated from
Bedlington, Northumberland, England, in 1923, to Philadelphia then Ohio.
I do have some recordings, but they were made in the 1970s from what was
by then a very worn 78, by people not really skilled in such a transfer.
(Reading the history of Columbia, it was possibly an acoustic recording
anyway.) The recordings would IMO not be good enough to have any
commercial value.
