Madliborg=Modliborz, Poland?

The Ellis Island site gives the place of origin of a friend's
grandparents as MADLIBORG, RUSSIA. They were actually Poles,
apparently in the Russian section of 1912 Poland. However, Madliborg
sounds more German than Russian, plus a Google search on Madliborg
turns up nothing. I realize that the Ellis Island site often makes
transcription errors, but I'm looking at the manifest and it definitely
seems to be Madliborg. In another section (address of relative or
friend) it seems to say Madliborg Warsaw. On entries for other
immigrants I see other Polish towns, also followed by Warsaw (example:
Sompolno Warsaw, Rosno Warsaw...maybe Roznow?). Looking at lists of
Polish towns, Modlibórz seems to be closest, but I think it was in the
German area, not Russian. If German, I wonder if its German name was
Madliborg/Madliburg. Anyone have any ideas?

Modlibo'rz, pron. [moh dlee boozh] is located in Poland's Kujawy region at
5226 1910.
Distance 78.4 miles W from Warszawa, couple of miles North from Lubien'
Kujawski.
During the interwar period this locality is identified as situated within
the Klo'bka gmina (parish), Wloclawek powiat (district), Warszawa Province.

Parish Klo'bka [klooh bkah] was the rural administrative centre of the
following villages:
Ge,cielewo, Klubskie Budy, Kurowo, Nowy Mlyn and Unislawice.
Modliborz was not a village and this may explain your difficulties with its
localization. Modliborz is falling under categoriey of "maja,tek" which can
be translated into English as the homestead or the land property. This
region was mostly agricultural as the majority of Poland lands, and Klo'bka
was the centre of the grain milling and brick kiln factory. Mrs. Anna Loga
is shown in 1929 Poland Business Directory as main landowner of Modliborz
(311 morg property).

Roman Catholic Church records of this region (parish Lubien Kujawski) can be
traced to the mid of 18th century and they are located at:

Thanks for the information! Modliborz was my thought too, but your
mentioning that the area was known for grain milling also points to it
as being correct. The immigrant in question is listed as being a
miller.

polish and other middle european place names have 3 or 4 versions
according to who was in charge
and which language was used by the administrators in the relevant years

old maps are a great help
