Greetings:

My grandfather Simeon Miok visited the USA in 1905, 1907, 1909; finally immigrating from Egress Hungary to the USA in 1913. He became a Naturalized Citizen in March, 1925.

He and Saveta Miok (Cionca) had a daughter Sofia born in 1913
in Hungary. They had two more children, Peter and John born in the USA in 1918 and 1922. Around the time of Naturalization in 1925, the Miok Surname was altered to Mike. Simeon died in 1928 in Clearlake WI, USA.

His death certificate listed his father as Lewis Miok. The pasenger list confirming Simeons 1905 trip to USA, listed the fathers given name as "L." There was no name for Lewis's spouce on the death certificate.

The 1828 Hungarian Land Census lists four Miok Surnames in Egress, Torontal County, Hungary.

Interested in learning more about Simeon's father and mother and the Miok family. Also if Simeon's father Lewis was related to any of the Miok families in the Census. Also wondering if there is a slavic connection since Egress Torontal, Hungary as part of the Banat. Eighty to ninety pecent of the population was from other countries.

Jewishgen ShtetlSeeker at http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/LocTown.asp
finds an Egres, Hungary. It seems to be an area, not a town.

Hungary phone directory at
http://infobel.com/en/world/Teldir.aspx?Ct=Europe&Co=Hungary&Dn=Online
Tudakozo&url=http://www.tudakozo.t-com.hu/main?xml=main&xsl=main
finds no Miok listings, but does find 8 Miokovics listings. There are 5
MIOK listings, but these appear to be aid organizations, so MIOK is probably
an abbreviation for something, not a surname.

If you wish to use the telephone directory, be sure and copy the complete
URL for it, and paste it in your browser. On the lookup screen put Miok in
Nev: block, then click on KERESES.

If you knew the town, you could put it in the Telepules block.

Miokovics listings are in Bakonszeg, Dunaujvaros, Csokmo, Baja, Apaj, Kal,
and Nagyatad.

There are no Cionka listings.

There is also an Egres in Romania.

Not a lot of help. Good luck on your search.
